For months I’ve been looking for a media streaming solution which works on Apple Mac OSX and Sony Playstation3. There’s an abundance of products available on Windows but a definite lack of options for the Mac user - well at least ones which don’t require advanced knowledge of OSX or messy workarounds.

Until, I stumbled upon TwonkyMedia Server from PacketVideo. The software is available for both Windows and Mac for $29.95 (they offer a free trial available to download from www.twonkymedia.com/server_download.html).

There is no complicated installation procedure and the server loads within seconds. TwonkyMedia Server supports various media types including video, audio, and photos which can be streamed to any supported device. Since I’ve been using TwonkyMedia Server I’ve not had any problems with the media streaming including delays or disconnections.

When you start the server by opening the application, the configuration page opens in your chosen web browser. From here, you can define the name of the server and choose the locations of your media files.
